THE MEXICAN POCKET KNIFE What do the Mexican farmers
and ranchers use for protection in the bush? They carry a machete.
Both for personal protection and as a very invaluable tool. I’ve
used it for cutting firewood mostly but also for things like repairs,
digging out fossils, prying at rocks and sticks out of my drive-chain
and other places. I’ve used it for tending the fire, cooking,
building shelters and the list goes on. I have yet had to use it
to defend myself against anything or anyone, but I would much rather
have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. This is another
item included on my “Baja Need” list.
I looked high and low for a way to safely mount a
machete to my bike in an accessible way. I could find nothing. Only
cheap sheathes that needed to be bunji corded to the bike. Very unsafe
in a fall. So, I built a nice light aluminum scabbard that securely
holds the machete and fully covers the cutting edge. This scabbard can
be mounted on just about anything from a garden tractor to ATVs to
motorcycles. We currently are developing a verity of mounting kits for
different applications.
